R503 - KHUMA IS CLOSED.
Road users travelling towards Khuma are requested to use the N12. This due a protest that is happening in the area. It is alleged that members of community are protesting against the increase in taxi fares. Furthermore, protesters have barricaded all entrances and exits into Khuma with stones and burning tyres. Law enforcement authorities are currently on the scene, monitoring the situation. The MEC for the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari, pleads with motorists to exercise patience and cooperate. MEC Lehari has further requested composure in the community of Khuma. He says that as government we know and understand that members of the community have a right to express their dissatisfaction. He said this should however not infringe with the rights of others. He adds that he encourages community members to open the road and engage government about their grievances. END Next Articles+ |
